Wight Diamond Festival

If by some chance your Bank Holiday weekend is still vacant, give serious consideration to attendance of the Wight Diamond Festival (28-31 May, but you guessed that). The Festival is based at the Ninham campsite near Shanklin on the Isle of Wight, and offers the opportunity to spend three days riding the Island’s 250-odd miles of trails and copious hills.

After nine years, organiser Trail Break has got the format pretty much nailed. Saturday and Sunday see a pair of parallel orienteering events. For the vaguely serious there’s the Wight Diamond Navigator, while the more relaxed will probably be tempted by the Trail Ale event – it’s a broadly similar concept but involves more pubs and café stops.

Post-ride you’ve got a licensed bar, catering and two nights of live music back at the event centre marquee. Monday morning sees a couple of options. There’s a tough King of the Hills challenge covering five sizable Wight hills (complete with Hair of the Hog hungover category with five pint minimum entry requirement). Or if you’re after an easy wind down then the Chill in the Hills will be just the thing.

For more information and to book online for the Wight Diamond, visit www.trailbreak.co.uk, or contact Trail Break on 0118 976 2491.
