Giant Mountain Mayhem 2008

It’s just a matter of days to go now until we get ready to meet and greet thousands of our lovely supporters and of course keen riders at the 11th Mountain Mayhem.

There’s so much going on this year that we thought it best to bring you the latest update on what’s been going on behind the scenes. The course is now being created by our expert team, you can expect lots of bumps and humps and plenty of fun over the 8.5 mile course.

All the fun kicks of at 8pm on Friday night when we see the launch of the inaugural SRAM ‘Drag’ race. As the name suggests, we really do mean drag – we expect you to turn up in your finest garb, locks flowing and makeup adjusted to take part in a mad, winner takes it all dash.

Headline sponsor Giant will be running the world’s biggest bike demo and, as well as a huge fleet of Giant’s 2008 bikes for you to test, there’ll be many bikes from other brands too.

Besides the racing, there’ll be plenty of chances for you to win free stuff. Original Source is hoping to find out what makes people excited in their photo competition running throughout the weekend.

Garmin want to spice things up whilst you’re out racing and are offering the loan of brand-new Edge 705 GPS devices so that you can ride a lap and compare and contrast to your peers and of course the elites. This race within a race could be just what you need to get you motivated at 2 am. There’s also the chance to bag yourself a cracking Edge to go home with too.

Next the lovely laid back holiday people at Neilson think that camping is vastly under rated and would like to see you celebrate your weekend under canvas, in a creative fun way. Those with the best-dressed campsite could find themselves going home with £1,000 worth of holiday vouchers.

There’s also a ‘Spirit of Mayhem’ award this year, for a person or team that sums up what Mayhem is all about.

Ticket2Ride and Kryptonite have teamed up to not only to offer a secure bike park, but are also offering a prize draw for a great holiday in Whistler. Every time you use the bike park you’ll be issued with a ticket and be automatically entered into the prize draw.

It’s the official launch of Mayhem World Club Card this weekend, our nifty little homage to Mayhem all year long and where you can access some nice discounts at Mayhem and beyond. Plus we’ll try to keep up to date with Mayhem stuff all year long.

For full details of what’s happening where and when, including our new sportive, check out www.mayhemworld.co.uk, there you’ll find the Weekend Events tab with all this info and more.

SHIFT at Mountain Mayhem

While there will be many distractions at Mountain Mayhem, without doubt the most exciting thing to look forward to is the chance to check out SHIFT magazine. The Bikemagic/SHIFT encampment will be in the main arena somewhere near both Whyte and Mayhem World – join up with the latter and there’ll be some special offers to be had. See you there…

If you can’t wait till then, you can find out more about SHIFT now or even buy a copy.
