Friday tech roundup – Bikemagic’s weekly highlights

It’s been a busy week. Despite Eurobike becoming a distant memory, we’ve still been trawling through the thousands of photos from the show, where the mountain bike industry used the presence of the world’s press to launch 2012 products

But despite everything new that was shown to us, we’re still being inundated with interesting products since the show as past. So, in case you missed any of it this week, here’s a recap of the ten most interesting developments that you need to know about.

Here’s a blast from the past, SRAM Grip Shift was spotted on Jaroslav Kulhavy’s Specialized at the world champs the other week. Expect to see it in the shops early next year. Will you be making the switch? It enjoyed a little success and underground popularity first time around, is the world ready for it once again?

Is this the ultimate Cannondale Scalpel 29er? It was stealing a lot of attention at the show; we literally had to fight our way through the crowd to even get close to it. It was worth the scrum though.

Speedplay debuts Syzr mountain bike pedals Years in development, but was the wait worth it. The unique design offers something different to everything else, with limitless float on offer due to an interesting two-piece cleat design.

GoPro HD Hero camera arrives for testing It seems everyone is filming their riding these days, and never ones wanting to be left out, we’re shamelessly jumping on the bandwagon. Expect some shonky films soon. But not because of the camera, just our poor video filming skills.

Fixie Inc launches Twin Flame 29er Most company’s are adopting 29ers, with just about every brand now offering a big wheeled bike. But Fixie Inc is taking a slightly different approach. Read the article to find out how.

CrankBrothers Cobalt 11 29 carbon wheelset The latest carbon fibre 29er wheels from CrankBrothers. Not the lightest, but damn they look good.

Santa Cruz Highball 29er hardtail – first ride OK, so it’s not strictly new tech, as it’s been out a while. But the Highball is generating a lot of buzz at the moment, and is the first 29er hardtail we’ve ridden that we’ll readily admit to having loved every minute of it.

New helmets from Mavic for 2012 Not enough choice in the helmet market? Wheel manufacturer Mavic has jumped in with two feet, offering a light helmet that offers loads of adjustment.

Lezyne develops range of LED lights As winter approaches (it is, you can’t hide from the fact, so you better get used to it) it’ll be time for the regular weekly night ride. We for one can’t wait. And we just can’t wait to try out the new lights from Lezyne.
