It’s been a long time in development, but finally Speedplay’s exciting new mountain bike pedal is now available. The Syzr was shown at Eurobike for the first time.
It’s a completely different beast to the company’s Frog mountain bike pedals, and borrows some technology from its popular road Zero pedal platform. The key difference between Speedplay’s design and that of other pedal systems is the infinitely adjustable float is built into the cleat, rather then in the pedal.
To provide flat, the cleat features two pieces, with the outer rotating. Two grub screws limit or restrict the available float depending on your preference. The pedal is a two-sided design and widely spaced metal tabs offer a very stable pedalling platform.
Expected availability is early 2012. More details and prices soon.
