Wild fires continue to rage at Swinley Forest

Swinley Forest’s trails are popular with mountain bikers

Police are questionning two youths on suspicion of arson in relation to wild fires that continue to rage at Swinley Forest, Surrey.

Approximately 200 firefighters from seven country forces are fighting the blaze, which covers about 300 hectares of the Berkshire woodland, a popular mountain bike site operated by Gorrick in partnership with the Crown Estate.

The two youths were arrested after firefighters reported a group of teenagers running away after allegedly setting fire to woodland on Tuesday.

The Lookout Discovery Centre remains closed, along with 10 roads, listed on the Bracknell Forest Council website.

Warm, dry weather and strong winds has hampered the progress of firefighters following the hottest April on record, which saw only 21 per cent of the expected rainfall in England and Wales.
