Nicolas Vouilloz of France and Britain’s Steve Peat continue
to pull away at the top of the World Cup Downhill standings following a classy one-two
in Japan at the weekend. Just six hundredths of a second separated winner Vouilloz
from Peat, with Gerwin Peters of Holland third. With two events to come, Vouilloz
now leads the series by 315 points. With 250 points for a win, he is guaranteed to
go into the last round leading the series.



In the Men’s Dual, Brian Lopes of the USA made it five wins out of six events this
season and looks almost certain to pick up the series title. Steve Peat and Scott
Beaumont finished sixth and seventh respectively. Beaumont holds fourth in the series.



The women’s Downhill went, predictably, to the awesome Frenchwoman Anne-Caroline
Chausson, her fourth win of the season. Like her compatriot, Vouilloz, she now looks
certain to retain her World Cup title. Perpetual runner-up, Missy Giove, finished
second with Marla Streb third. British Champion, Helen Mortimer, continues to perform
with distinction in World Cup events, taking an excellent fifth. She now holds a
solid seventh place in the series.



Chausson is also dominating the Women’s Dual Series, picking up her fifth straight
win at the weekend (that’s nine World Cup Downhill and Dual wins this season for
Anne-Caroline!) Best Brit was again Helen Mortimer in 8th.
