The first stage race to take part in Greece will go ahead this year on with the Transnatura on 9-12 September.
The 4 day event covers a distance of 300 km with 7547m of climbing, taking in the Amindeo, Vitsi, Prespes, Nestorio, Grammos regions and other unique areas.
After a pilot event in 2009, the organisers have nwo registered the event on the UCI 2010 calendar. Eligible to participate are athletes with a valid UCI license who can earn valuable UCI points, as well as open athletes who wish to rise up to the challenge and enjoy the experience of riding through the nature of North-western Greece.
Organizers of the TRANSNATURA MTB STAGE RACE are the Consortium of the Ecotourism Societies of Vitsi, Grammos, Prespes and the Cultural Triangle of Prespa in collaboration with Outsports, a sports management company and the sports marketing & management Ck Agency. The race is taking place under the aegis and in cooperation with the local authorities of Florina, Kastoria, and Kozani, the Prefecture of Western Macedonia and the Cycling Union of Macedonia and Thrace.
For the open athletes who believe that the four stages and the 300klm of the Transnatura international stage race are a challenge they might not be able to handle, a one-day open race will also be organized on the 12th of September. This open race will be 54klm long and its course is the same of the fourth and last stage with the start and finish point Amyntaio.
