TweedLove cycling festival

The Tweed Valley starts on 24 July

TweedLove is a new bike festival for the Tweed Valley, Scotland being held for the first time this summer.

The festival is being organised by local riders, with lots of people from around the valley getting involved, welcoming visitors and sharing the (Tweed) love. With less than a week to go, here’s a look at what you can expect.

Follow Me
Special Screening in Peebles, Thursday 29 July: If you don’t already know how good this film is, check out the six pages about it in this month’s Dirt. An amazing new film by the crew responsible for The Collective, Roam and Seasons. Some amazing prizes up for grabs too, and if you fancy your cine skills, there’s still time to send in a dvd for the short film comp.

Hawaii Tweed
Glentress Wednesday 28 July: Orange and Kona Bike Demo night, BBQ and Ride Out.
Try the new Orange 5 Pro, Alpine 160, Blood, P7 and R8. Britain’s finest mountain bikes, in various sizes to try out. From Kona you can get jiggy with One20s, Dawgs, AbraCadabras and a selection of the finest new machines from Canada. Tech people on hand to help, and Tracy and Emma from The Hub will be there to offer riding tips and whether your shorts match the bike or not…

Natural Tweed
Saturday 24 July: Since we don’t know anyone who actually prefers riding round in a 800-rider-long procession, we’re doing our beloved valley trails justice by keeping numbers for this ride very limited. 45 miles (shorter options possible) of fine, mostly natural Tweed Valley trails starting in Glentress.  There’s still a few places left at time of writing. And better still it’s free.

Skinny Tweed
Sunday 25 July: Beautiful road ride – 45 miles of quiet Borders country roads, with nice friendly people for company. And free to register. What’s not to love?

Local Trail Ride-Outs
All week: Come and join the locals on some friendly rides on some favourite mtb routes – leaving from Peebles, Innerleithen and Selkirk. Not official guiding, just friendly, informal trail-loving bike rides. Various distances and difficulties, and some women-only rides.

Wheels of Fortune
Online competition: Check out the website for the chance to win loads of great prizes – including a night’s accommodation for two in the tres nice Tontine Hotel in Peebles. Loads of other delicious, enjoyable and useful prizes.
