New Olympic record for GB Track Team

Great Britain has set a new Olympic Record in the
qualifying round of the men’s team pursuit, beating the previous record by a massive
1.9s!

Britain’s Olympic sprint team of Bryan Steel, Paul Manning, Bradley Wiggins and Chris
Newton qualified fastest with a time of 4:04.030, destroying the time set by the
French team.

The second fastest qualifying team, from The Ukraine, also beat the previous Olympic
record with their time of 4:04.078.

The eight teams to qualify for Monday evening’s quarterfinal are: Great Britain,
the Ukraine, France (4:05.155), Germany (4:05.750), Australia, New Zealand (4:08.463),
the Netherlands (4:09.590) and the Russian Federation (4:09.910).

Italy, the reigning Olympic champion (and current world record holder), finished
the 4,000m event with a disappointing time of 4:15.451, qualifying 11th of the 12
teams which took part.
