The rest of the Womens junior road race were probably still tightening their shoes, when Nicole Cooke went off the front after 4km of the race, but they should have been paying attention as that’s the last time they saw her until the finish line.
Magdalena Sadlecka was the first of the chasers, finishing 8 seconds after Cooke, Canadian Clare Hall-Patch came in 12 seconds down while the pre race favourite and time trial winner frenchwoman Juliette Vanderkerckhove finished eighth, almost a minute down on the British rider.
With such a dramatic victory in only her first year in the junior category, Cooke was absolutely delighted with her win, and alongside Jason Queally’s Olympic Gold it’s another very welcome shot in the arm for British competitive cycling.
