A project to build on the reputation of the Penhydd (formerly 9feet) Trail and develop an extensive riding network got underway at Afan Argoed this month.
Russell Burton, fresh from the success of the single track heaven that is Cwm Carn, has been charged with delivering a further 60km trails within the next two years. ‘Our immediate task is to work on the Wall Trail- which is an existing route, and add some new single track’ said Russell. ‘We’re working with local trail builders- which gives us a head start on planning the new stuff. The potential is enormous- it’ll be like Cwm Carn on steroids!’
The work at Afan is part of a Forest Enterprise initiative to develop world-class mountain biking in Wales, and is being funded by The Forestry Enterprise, The Welsh Tourist Board and The Welsh Development Agency.
