“The severity of his injury won’t be known until he’s recovered from his surgery – the doctors can’t say at this time if he will regain the use of his legs. Tarek will have a long road to recovery – our thoughts and prayers are with him during this difficult time”, said Chris Gagan from Race Face.
This is not the first spinal injury suffered by a freerider; Kona-sponsored, Graham Kuerbis, was injured 18 months ago while riding an icy North Shore. Although, at the time, doctors thought he was paralysed, he has managed to regain the use of his legs and learnt to walk again.
As well as being a fine dirt-jumper and technical freerider, you couldn’t hope to meet a nicer guy. We last saw Tarek at the Freeraid Classic, where he had been tirelessly styling it up for the cameras and meeting some of the Frorider’s huge European fan club. Our thoughts and well wishes go out to him.
