Police have warned that motorbikers and mountainbikers using the Blue Rock
quarry landfill site in Rowley Regis are risking their
lives.
Though there is a thin top crust over the site the thousands of tons of
waste underneath has decomposed and become unstable. “There is at least 90ft
of waste there and you could go right to the bottom.” said Smethwick traffic
Sergeant Dave Swift.
The riders cautioned so far have only recieved warning letters for riding on
common land without permission. Persistent offenders may face £100 fines,
but the penalties for continued use could be far more serious, warned
Sergeant Swift “If they do go through the crust they will never come out,
it’s as simple as that.”
