Fancy a bit of a multisport challenge? If you’re feeling smug about how much exercise you’ve done recently then be humbled by news of this crazed event we found on Ananova.com.
The Swiss Gigathlon is a week long multi sport event incorporating mountain biking, road biking, swimming and running. Not surprisingly considering the state competitors will be in it also offers a wheelchair alternative to the inline skating leg. Most of the 10,000 people involved attempt one or more ‘legs’ as part of a relay team but 157 men and 6 women are going solo.
Racing over 900 miles in an equivalent to seven consecutive Ironman triathlons each competitor has to finish the day’s course by midnight to stay in contention. Some are already sure that no soloists will actually finish, although local hero and favourite Urban Schumacher has already been pre-training on the course and remains confident.
Apparently it’s “all in the tempo”.
