The Road Records Association women’s 1,000 mile record, set at 3 days and 1 hour by Eileen Sheridan in 1954, has been broken. Lynne Taylor carried on after breaking her own Land’s End to John O’Groats record to attack the 1,000 and yesterday evening she succeeded. Her provisional time is 2 days, 16 hours and 40 minutes, beating the record by a healthy 8 hours 20 minutes.
For most people 1,000 miles is a number of months’ riding, so doing it in 3 days is a staggering achievement. That’s an average speed of just under 14mph for the length of the country plus another 160 hilly Scottish miles…
