The Innerleithen Enduro took place last weekend at Traquair Forest with 130 happy punters making their way to the event.
The first riders were off early, many in groups of friends, heading up to the top of the hill for the first of three tracks on offer, completed in sequence with the combined time for all three counting towards the final result.
The tracks varied in character from natural and loamy through pedally or steep and even some manmade rocky bits, but all gave a good taste of the challenging riding at the Forestry Commission Scotland venue. What didn’t vary was the camaraderie among the racers and friendly professionalism of the marshals and event staff.
Gary Forrest was first back at 11.00 and was virtual leader with a time of 18.42. Riders then came to the finish in groups, as the day went on, and compared their results with their mates as they caught their breath.
All eyes were on Crawford Carrick-Anderson as he came down the last descent but it wasn’t quite his perfect day, finishing 20 seconds behind Gary in 19.02 and the Vets winner, but requesting that the race is two laps of the course next time ! George Gannicott was fastest Junior in 21.39 and Gill Davies fastest Woman in 28.41.
