Is this the future of bicycle design? It looks like a futuristic concept bike designed for some new sci-fi blockbuster but the bike in these photos is real, and is the latest offering from Spanish manufacturer Mondraker.
Its insane revolutionary Tron-esque lines feature an integrated stem technology, something we’ve seen on road bikes in recent years but never applied to mountain bikes, until now.
The reason for this novel approach was to reduce the height of the front, as Mondraker explain: “We took off the stem and made it part of the frame. This allows us to shorten the steering tube and strengthen all the front area of the bicycle for a better force transmission from your upper body to the trail.”
A proprietary fabrication process was used to create the new frame and stiff is claimed to be greater than the Podium Carbon’s predesuccer. Weight is also impressive, and it’s on a par with road frames, with a large quoted at under 1000g (2.20lbs).
The funky stem can be adjusted both the X and Y axis using an eccentric aluminium insert. To avoid damage to the frame from the bars swinging around in a crash, Mondraker developed IST to limit the steering angle.
Elsewhere, the frame features a BB30 Press Fit bottom bracket and Stealth Post Mount brake tabs, and cables are routed internally to keep the lines clean.
