It’s come to that time of year, the point in the calendar we all dread: winter. As much as I’d like to avoid such a gloomy opening , there’s no avoiding it, the evenings are drawing in.
But instead of letting the prospect of the rapidly approaching winter get us down, we’re rubbing our hands together with delight, the season of epic night rides are nearly upon us.
And with that in mind, Exposure Lights have just released details of their 2012 range. The guys down in West Sussex have been working hard on improving the performance of the lights across the range, with a focus on improving the electronics.
A new Intelligent Thermal Management technology has brought about improvements to efficiency, with better heat management meaning better output and battery life.
They’re brighter as a result too, with improved Cree XPG R5 LEDs giving roughly a 25 lumen per LED increase. Burn time remains the same.
Other changes include new charge ports are now gold plated to give conductivity and corrosion resistance, and a new storm cap keeps muddy gloves out of the charge port for better durability.
2012 highlights
These changes mean the new Six Pack Mk.2 (£449.99) now chucks out a massive 1925 Lumens, night time rides will never be the same again. Enduro racers will be rubbing their hands with glee. Burn time is still 3hrs on MaXx and 10hrs on medium, and the weight of the light, including bracket, is 478g.
Looking to us like the steal of the range, the £324.99 MaXx-D Mk.4 offers a lighter unit, just 337g, than the Six Pack while the 1285 Lumen output from four LEDs is still considerable
The best choice for a secondary helmet-mounted light is the Diablo (£199.99), with the Mk.3 now up to nearly 1000 Lumens, just short at 975 Lumens. It’s also impressively light at 124g.
Lastly in our range preview is out favourite, the Joystick. Now in its 6th generation this little light provides 325 Lumens in a light that weighs just 103g. It’s the most affordable light in the range at £164.99 to. Ideal for a backup light or on a helmet mount.
