Fresh from the biggest bike show in the world, Taipei in Taiwan, Edco have just sent us a sneaky look their latest carbon fibre 29in rims.
The Swiss wheel building company has launched the new rim featuring a full carbon clincher design with a patented ceramic braking surface (a feature used already on the company’s road wheels). It’s a 29mm depth design and a wide range of spoke hole choices will be offered.
We’re struggling to think of anyone who still uses V-brakes on mountain bikes these days, but for those few who do, the ceramic rim will offer superior braking performance. For all us disc brake users, the company reckon the ceramic treatment will add to the strength of the rim.
No price has yet been confirmed, and Edco will offer wheelsets built around their own design hubs.
The wheels look good and we’ll be getting more information, as well as a closer look at an actual set when they are brought to the UK, soon. The market for carbon fibre 29er wheels is certainly hotting up with more choice than ever before, as 29er converts (particularly racers) are realising the benefits of the stiffer wheels in 29er mountain bikes.
