World Champs get air time from BBC

There’s a rare opportunity this weekend to see MTB action on the Beeb as Grandstand screens coverage of the World Champs in Austria.

The event in Kaprun features XC, Downhill, Trials and 4-Cross but the Beeb will be focusing on the Downhill final, probably because they have their eye on Steve Peat as the most likely provider of a British medal. There’s chances too in the women’s DH with Tracey Moseley -fresh from her NORBA win last week and hoping to better last year’s second-place finish- and Fion Griffiths.

But medal hopes certainly aren’t out of the question in the Cross-country. Caroline Alexander was desperately unlucky in the Commonwealth Games, but pre-puncture she gave a clear indication of what she’s capable of and with luck on her side, who knows. In the men’s Liam Killeen will have gained confidence from his Commonwealth bronze of a few weeks ago and will want to pull off something similar.

Coverage on telly is at 15.30 & 15.55 this Saturday with commentary from Hugh Porter and Nigel Page.
