The Land Rover G4 Challenge covers a massive 4000 miles in three countries. Impressively, the three countries are spread all round the world, being the USA (with stages on the east and west coasts), Australia and South Africa, making four distinct stages. Which is where the G4 bit comes in. Uniquely, a large part of the race will take place in urban areas (Quebec, Cape Town, Sydney and, bizarrely, Las Vegas) making the Challenge rather more accessible than most adventure races.
The format includes all the usual adventure race fare – running, kayaking, climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, rafting etc – plus, naturally, off-road driving. There’ll be 16 competitors, each from a different country. While each competitor is aiming for individual honours, they’ll be teamed up with a different competitor for each stage.
And one of those 16 competitors could be you. Land Rover are looking for applicants to take part. Bob Dover, MD of Land Rover, says that “a higher than average standard of physical fitness is important, [but] the Challenge is more about teamwork, clever strategic thinking and a positive ‘up for it’ attitude than out-and-out strength or stamina”. If that sounds like you, visit www.landroverG4challenge.com for more information.
