It’s almost time for the big one folks – the DH World Championships take place this Sunday 1st September in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
If you didn’t catch the news from timed training sessions (there is no qualifying at World Champs but riders have a chance to put in a timed run to gauge their speed), American Mitch Ropelato of Specialized rode his Enduro 29 to second place behind Canadian Steve Smith in first on a 650b-wheeled bike. The course is flat for a downhill race so it will be very interesting indeed to see if the lighter bikes will be stable enough on the high speeds of the Pietermaritzburg track to better the true downhill bikes come race time. Rachel Atherton has somewhat of a strong hold on this one in the women’s it would seem – she ‘won’ the timed session by over 16 seconds, which is quite frankly lightyears in downhill terms.
Who is your money on for the title of 2013 DH World Champion in men’s and women’s and what bike do you think they will be riding..?
