So these results are going to cause a little bit of controversy for sure… over at the Downhill World Champs in the timed session, Stevie Smith came down the hill in pole position today, but he was on a 650b short travel prototype Devinci.
Mitch Ropelato came down the hill second fastest which was one stormer of a result for him considering his best result in the World Cup so far this year is 37th, so Mitch had one heck of a run… on his 29″ Specialized Enduro.
Gee Atherton was the fastest man on a proper Downhill bike, and he came in 3rd position. This now begs the questions, is the track at Pietermaritzburg too easy? Or is this track a way of testing a rider in ways they are not used, and there should be a rule on the type of bike you are riding in the race?
1st – Stevie Smith
2nd – Mitch Ropelato
3rd – Gee Atherton
In the women’s there was a little less controversy but nevertheless there was still excitement, Rachel Atherton was the fastest woman down the hill by almost 17 seconds!
1st – Rachel Atherton
2nd – Tracey Hannah
3rd – Morgane Charre
