A scammer has repeatedly joined the site to post fake ads. He has been using several different names and several different bikes but we’ve been keeping watch and deleting the ads and the memberships as soon as they appear.
In most recent ads, this particular would-be scammer has been using mainly ’04 Cannondale bike pictures and descriptions. There are several tell-tale signs.
- It often looks like they have taken the picture from another website.
- The descriptions do not always match the product and the description may have been taken directly from a manufacturer’s website.
- It could be one person selling several different bikes, all different sizes and all pictures taken at different locations.
- The biggest tell is a price that seems too good to be true: ‘O4 bikes originally selling for over two or three thousand pounds now for sale for £700.
The vast majority of ads and transactions on the second-hand classifieds section are completely legitimate and it’s a treasure trove of bargains and interesting deals. But as is so often the case, one or two can try and spoil the experience for everyone, so please be vigilant and if anything seems strange, don’t go through with the transaction and contact us to report it.
Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!
