Bikemagic Hero of the Day is Lloyd Scott, who’s just finished a 50-day ride across Australia from Perth to Sydney. Impressive, but not unique, you’re thinking. Well, think again, for Scott rode the 2,700 miles on a penny farthing (or “Ordinary” for the purists). Not only that, but he followed through with his Victorian theme by donning a Sherlock Holmes costume for the whole journey. We’re not sure whether a deerstalker complies with Australian helmet legislation, but never mind that.
43-year-old Scott is a former leukaemia sufferer, and aims to raise £1m for leukaemia charities. If his name seems vaguely familiar, that’ll be because the Essex fireman’s previous exploits include completing the London Marathon in a diving suit (complete with brass helmet and lead boots) and completing an underwater marathon along the bottom of Loch Ness.
He finished his journey by riding into the sea at Bondi beach. We hope he stripped and regreased the bearings afterwards…
