Volunteers wanted for Ft Bill Mountain Festival

The Highland Mountain Culture Association, organisers of the Fort William Mountain Festival, are looking for up to 30 volunteers to work on the 2007 event.

From Friday 16 February to Saturday 3 March 2007 Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands, will host a Mountain Festival that will put the Outdoor Capital of the UK at the centre of the celebrations for Highland 2007, the Year of Highland Culture – a sixteen day extravaganza of films, lectures, workshops, art, writing, photography, theatre and music for residents and visitors who want to learn about and celebrate mountain culture.

Chairman of the Highland Mountain Culture Association, Lex Troedson said: ‘Our hardworking, enthusiastic volunteers are crucial to the success of the Fort William Mountain Festival every year. For this year’s event we are looking for 30 volunteers to help us stage the most ambitious selection of cultural and sporting events and activities in Fort William and Lochaber during the best winter walking and climbing conditions of the year.

‘We are sure that with this year’s expanded programme of new events and old favourites the experience gained by our volunteers will leave a lasting legacy for the future; bringing a keener, more active interest in the mountains and developing a deeper understanding of all aspects of mountain culture. Volunteering will also strengthen existing bonds within the local community and provide opportunities for volunteers to use their expertise in a variety of contexts, both at home and abroad.

‘Volunteering at the Mountain Festival is a great fun experience and many of our volunteers come back year after year. So we encourage all those who want to be part of the event to sign up as a volunteer now’.

Organisers need volunteers to staff the main Festival venue at the Nevis Centre, Fort William and duties include Box Office, Front of House and Ushering, , Information Desk, Market Research, manning the art and photographic exhibition and setting up and striking the main festival venues.
