The Gore Bike Wear TransWales seven-day stage race will return in 2011 from August 13-20.
The race mixes untimed stages with timed stages and can be tackled solo or in pairs, with open pair (18-39yrs), vets pairs(40yrs+), mixed pair, open solo (18-39yrs) and vets solo (40yrs+) categories available.
As in previous years, TransWales will run hill climbing, descending and general trail riding stages in order to find the best all-rounders.
And, for 2011, a Prologue Marathon will take place on August 13, where riders can enjoy a 40km marathon ride with an optional special stage at the end where riders will get the chance to test their racing skills.
It is open to all TransWales riders (but not compulsory) who want to limber up and get their legs in shape for the challenge ahead. It is also open to non-TransWales riders who would like a taster of a typical unique day’s riding in the TransWales.
A Mini TransWales will also be added to the line-up, so if you can’t find the time for a full seven-day stage event, the three or four day version will suit you.
You can either join the event from the 13th to the 16th, or from the 17th to the 20th. You will ride the same trails/courses as everybody else and get the same treatment with regards to event holdall, finishing jersey, food, camping, facilities only difference being is that you are only riding for three or four days.
The full course will cover approximately 550km with nearly 15,000m of climbing, although full details are yet to be confirmed.
