American Jefe Branham is covering a staggering average of 180.91 miles a day to currently lead the Tour Divide, while Mike Hall is flying the British flag in fourth place.
The Tour Divide is a 2745-mile race across the mountain passes and windswept valleys of the Continental Divide, with the self-supported riders each tackling 200,000 feet of climbing between Banff, Alberto and Antelope Wells, New Mexico.
Hall has covered 807.75 miles thus far, averaging 7.1 miles per hour and 170.64 miles a day, while Branham leads the way having ridden 874.57 miles of the route.
“It’s been a little bit uncomfortable,” said Hall, who’s riding an On-One Carbon 29er. “Last night I was trying to get to Lincoln and I was just falling asleep on the bike.”
Hall stopped in Helena, Montana to get some chain lube at Great Divide Cyclery before stopping for a bit to eat.
“I’ve been told you can get stronger in the second week,” added Hall, who was just 50 miles in front of Londoner Aidan Harding. “I don’t want the guy in front to get too far ahead.”
“When you try to push your limits, it’s a moving goalpost really. If you do the 24-hour solo, I’ve done that, and I think if I can do that, I look to the next thing. This is the next thing, really.”
You can track all the riders on the Tour Divide website.
