Highland Perthshire has launched 16 off-road cycling route cards to help make the area more accessible for mountain bikers.
The routes, spread throughout the area encompassing Aberfeldy, Dunkeld & Birnam, Blair Atholl, Rannoch & Tummel and Pitlochry, are designed as an introduction to the fantastic possibilities which Highland Perthshire offers for both visitors and residents alike. Following recognised way-marked paths, they range from easy riverside rides ideal for families, to challenging longer routes into the hills for the more enthusiastic cyclist.
The route cards have been produced by the Highland Perthshire Cycling Group, working closely in conjunction with Highland Perthshire Ltd, the area’s destination management organisation (DMO), and Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland, part of Scottish Cycling.
Ian Aitken, Chief Executive of Cycling Scotland, commented: “Development of these route cards is a fantastic idea. The routes have been designed to enable cyclists to choose routes based on area, desired distance, level of physicality and environmental surroundings, allowing cyclists the freedom to get on their bike and discover the countryside at their own pace.”
Printed versions are available as a complete set from a network of cycle friendly businesses in the area and are also downloadable from www.highlandperthshirepaths.co.uk.
