Four down, one to go. The penultimate round of the Chain Reaction Cycles MTB Marathon Series enjoyed near-perfect riding weather in Selkirk, Scotland, last weekend.
As at the May event in Llandovery, Wales, and the Marshbrook, Shropshire, round earlier this month, Saturday was all about riding on skinny tyres. Almost 300 road cyclist saddled up for the final event in the CycleOps Power Road Sportive Series.
Then came the off-road riders 24 hours later. Following feedback from previous editions, course designer Pete Laing made a handful of changes to key sections of the course, as well as adding some more fantastic single track to the menu.
The first rider on the mini marathon made it over the line in just over an hour and-a-half, while the last rider on the 88km long full marathon took eight hours, 23 minutes to complete the challenging course.
The final round of the CRC MTB Marathon Series heads to Ruthin, north Wales, on September 17-18, kicking off with the Exposure Lights Big Night Out on Saturday before the main event on Sunday.
