The Peak District has never been without strange meetings between groups of ramblers and mountain bikers, but we couldn’t resist this tale from Pete Short at Psyclosport.
“We were riding up from ‘Jacobs ladder’ on Sunday in absolutely freezing sleet and snow. By the time we’d got to the top one of the lads had his freehub freeze completely solid. We knew the best way to thaw it out, but we’d only just started riding so no-one wanted to ‘go’ yet.
We were stood there wondering what to do and a group of walkers wandered up, realised what had happened and offered to help out. We offered to point it for him but he doused the general area and the freehub sprang back to life. After that it carried on fine for the rest of the day.”
“We’ve often taken the p*ss out of ramblers, but that was the first time we’ve had to do it literally” said Pete, adding “big thanks to whoever it was, we owe them a drink”.
