Congratulations to Nottingham council who, last week, finally got round to putting up lights on the cities busiest cycleway on Castle Boulevard. Unfortunately they’ve managed to stick them right in the middle of the path.
Council workmen obviously thought they’d spice up that dull bike commute by sticking the lamp posts slap bang in the centre of the path to create an interesting and exciting slalom course.
Council manager david Tole admitted “workmen needed to use a bit more common sense” but said the problem arose because of “the tangle of pipe and telecommunications services beneath the pavement”.
Though the posts were meant to be on the centreline between pavement and cyclepath this was not always possible so they put them as close to the original place as they could. “Unfortunately this was occasionally right in the middle of the path” said Mr Tole. He continued “We are looking at either shifting the light column or diverting the path.”
