Here’s the latest twin seater festival news from Tandemania Guru Pete Bird;
The International Tandemania Gathering, Ironbridge YHA, Shropshire, 26th to 29th July 2001.
The event is based at Ironbridge (Coalport) YHA, Tandemania has taken out Group membership for all riders; therefore you will have no requirement to be a member. The Hostel has en-suite bedrooms for couples and rooms set aside for families (over 160 beds available). There is another Hostel in Ironbridge (Coalbrookdale) for any overflow.
Locked tandem storage at the YHA, even if you are staying at B & B’s throughout this World Heritage Site.
A welcome pack available from Ironbridge YHA (Coalport) on arrival for all and no fee is charged for any organised events throughout the four days (Celeidh excepted). A Tandem workshop and sag wagon are available all four days and the full range of Tandemania’s tandems are available for test riding so you can arrive without a tandem too! Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and the BBQ will be organised by the Ironbridge YHA for all riders attending the event.
All in all an experience of friendliness & fun over four days with (or without) tandems and if the weather is real bad, Museums are in abundance!

Of the event is listed below and rides (depending on numbers will be led by Pete Bird & Sarah Brophy and others). Family routes are also available;
Thursday 26th July
10.00am: Welcome Ride; 35/40 miles. A 55/60-mile route will be available for those wishing to ride with friends or on their own.
12.00pm: Lunch @ TBC, 35 & 55-mile routes meet.
4.00pm approx: Tea @ Ironbridge YHA (Coalport).
7.00pm: Meal for all @ Ironbridge YHA (Coalport) bring your own Wine.
8.00pm: Meet for all @ The Malthouse in Ironbridge for great live music, food is also available.
Friday 27th July
10.00am: 35/40 mile led ride, 55/60-mile route supplied.
Lunch: Lunch @ TBC, 35 & 55 mile routes meet.
4.00pm approx: Tea @ Ironbridge YHA (Coalport).
6.00pm: Tandemania Time Trial, Prizes for all.
7.30/8.00pm: Tandemania Bar B Que for all, bring your own booze.
Evening: During and after the Bar B Que, Pete Bird will be available for Questions & Answers on Tandems, Wheel-building workshop and other Technical information. Tandemania’s full range of tandems will also be on show for testing. Also local craftsman at the China Museum will be open for viewing.
Saturday 28th July
10.00am: 35/40 mile led ride, 55/60-mile route supplied
Lunch: Lunch @ TBC; 35 & 55 mile routes meet
4.00pm approx: Tea @ Ironbridge YHA (Coalport)
6.30pm: Meal for all @ Ironbridge YHA (Coalport) bring your own wine
8.00pm – 12.30am: The Infamous Tandemania Celeidh @ Ironbridge YHA (Coalport). This Way Up is the band – Dance those legs off! Bring own booze. Price per adult £6.00, U15 £2.00 (Depending on numbers if above 80 we will move from YHA to the village hall close by)
Sunday 29th July
10.00am: Short routes available, self led.
Midday: Tandemania Fun Day, Tandem Grass Track Racing, Tandem Family Races, and other games! – Prizes for all.

Location
Ironbridge is south of Telford by some 4 miles in Shropshire, famous for the first Ironbridge in the world over the River Severn.
The countryside is tandem style – enough quietness on the lanes and the fab descents!
How to get there
Road: M54, junction 4, follow (Brown) signs to Ironbridge Gorge, pass Blist Hill Museum on your left and at the bottom of the hill bear left. The hostel is on your right after 200 metres.
Rail: Telford Central Rail Station is 5 miles away, booking is essential if travelling with tandem. Bike route from the station available, please call for a copy.
