After skies darkened with the smoke of thousands of burning cows last year, the recent blue skies have been just what the bike industry needed to up sales.
The only trouble is that many shops and suppliers are running out of bikes as the sudden rush of fair weather cyclists catches them by surprise. And here at BM we’ve already been affected – Scoop is still waiting for test bikes to arrive from several brands, while Alex our sales guy is still waiting for his Giant XTC to turn up.
Brian at Trek / Gary Fisher /Klein UK told us that this spring was one of their biggest ever, and that everyone in the staff has been working late shifts down the warehouse to try and get orders out to shops, with reinforcements arriving by the container load every day.
Carole at Specialized added “The combination of an early Easter and some uncharacteristically warm weather has resulted in a very positive start to 2003. All models are selling well from epic mountain bikes to commuter bikes and we have scheduled a steady supply of our most popular models to ensure that our dealers can continue to sell our bicycles right through to the new model year in the autumn.”
Whether the bike buying frenzy and excellent weather will continue through 2002 is yet to be seen, but it’s good to hear such a positive start even if it is bucketing down up here now!
Thanks to BikeBiz for the initial tip-off.
