Great news for all one-gear fans out there,
the 2001 World Singlespeed Championships will be held in the UK in 2001.

This is major coup, pulled off by singlespeed legend Chipps, who had to bare-naked-wrestle
a US promoter for the chance to host the event.



A dry run for the worlds will be the European Champs which are at Cheddar this year.
Amongst the many riders taking part will be 1999 UK Road National Champion John Tanner, aboard his On-One Inbred singlespeed.
He claims he’ll even pick the Euro S/S champs over the Olympics, saying "Sydney
makes great tea and it would be great to ride the Olympics but at the moment I’d
tend towards the singlespeed champs. Theres nothing like winning two National champs
jerseys in one season."



So folks, start practising… Date, venue and everything else aren’t known at the
moment, but remember (and has anyone told Tanner), the winners get obligatory tatoos,
and as they say, "If you don’t want the ink, don’t win"…
