Second chance for Olympic tickets

Will you apply for a ticket this Friday?

As it was widely reported recently, many people missed out on getting a ticket for the London 2012 Olympics, but on Friday there’s a second chance as 2.3 million tickets go on sale.

Two-thirds missed out on the first-round lottery but organisers say the tickets available on Friday morning will be offered on a first come, first served basis, with 500,000 costing £20 or less.

The ballot starts at 6am on Friday 24 June, so set your alarm clock nice and early to secure your best chance of getting a seat at next years biggest sporting event. However, you won’t immediately know whether you’ve been successful, the London 2012 organisers stating: “Applicants will be notified whether their request for tickets has been successful between 24 and 48 hours after the request is submitted. Payment will be taken after the 10 day process.“

Second chance sales tickets will be on sale at a range of price categories and across a range of sports. Tickets are still available in 311 sessions, including 44 medal events, for Archery, Athletics, Race Walk, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Canoe Sprint, Mountain Biking, Dressage, Football, Fencing, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Rowing, Sailing, Synchronised Swimming, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Wrestling, and Weightlifting.

In total, 1.5 million of the tickets will be priced at £50 or less and over half a million of these tickets will be priced at £20 or less. Sixty sessions with special prices are still available – 33 are in football, and 27 are in the other sports. People will be able to apply for a maximum of three sessions and six tickets per session for most sports (Football, Volleyball and Race Walk will have larger limits).

The 700,000 successful ticket applicants in the first-round have been this week finding out just what tickets they have been allocated. Beach volleyball and handball became trending terms on Twitter, with #beachvolleyball rising to the top on the social networking website.

The final batch of tickets, totalling 1.3 million, will be sold in stages next year.
