DEFRA has announced a widespread easing of the animal movement restrictions in the North of England.
8,500 farms in North Yorkshire, Northumberland, Lancashire and Cumbria had restrictions removed last night while 5,026 farms in Durham and Cumbria were released on Wednesday. This reduces Northern infected and restricted areas to Hexham, Skipton, and parts of Cumbria including Penrith.
Hopefully these moves will precede wider trail opening in these areas, but we’ve no confirmation of access changes so far.
Meanwhile Sam Blankharn has mailed us the following useful information;
I can tell you that in south Cumbria/ north Lancashire border area, most byways west of the M6 motorway (i.e between the motorway and the sea) are open, apart from a few specific paths. Including almost all of the Arnside/Silverdale AONB. Those to the east of the motorway are mostly closed.
