On Sunday 1 November West Drayton Mountain Bike Club (WDMBC) host the inaugural Pronghorn Bordon Enduro. An 8 mile circuit will be based on the one used at the hugely successful first round of the Southern XC series with some extra single track, swooping downhill and fire road thrown in for good measure. Generous sponsorship from Pronghorn cycles will see the winning riders go home with some worthwhile prizes as a reward for their efforts.
Chris Denman, former Southern XC champ and WDMBC race organiser said, “We received a lot of positive feedback from racers after round 1 of the Southern XC and this got us thinking about organising an enduro using an extended version of the course. The circuit will include favourites like the ‘Cresta Run’ and the ‘Sheep Dip’ as well as some new challenging single track that will keep even the most experienced racer on their toes.”
Race sponsor, Pronghorn Racing, a leading Danish mountain biking company, has agreed in to sponsor the event. Jeremy Crook, Global Sales Manager commented: “We are excited to be involved with WDMBC and the first ever Bordon Enduro. The unique Anti Power Loss System (APLS) used on Pronghorn bikes means they ride like a hard tail on the climbs and a full suspension bike on the descents – exactly the type of characteristics you want from your bike when racing at Bordon. As well as providing prizes for the race categories we will be exhibiting at the event so come and try the bikes for yourself.”
The event will feature a 4-hour race for solo and pairs, a 2-hour solo race and even a 2 lap beginners and 1 lap fun race. For the under 10s and 12s there is also a race on a specially adapted circuit. Finally, for those into their ‘Frankenbikes’ there is also the ‘Quirky’ bike race for owners of tandems, mini bikes, trailer bikes, unicycles and double deckers. No cyclo-cross bikes though.
The event will have all the facilities to make the event go smoothly, including ample free parking on hard-standing ground, hot food, first aid, computerised results, commentary and prize ceremonies.
