Powerbars in the corner shop?

 

 

You could be seeing Powerbars in every corner shop if
new owners Nestle put their minds to it.

Power Bar officials are hoping to broaden distribution with a pending sale to the
Swiss global candy powerhouse. Trade paper Bicycle Retailer & Industry News
reports that Power Bar’s board of directors on Feb. 18 approved Nestle’s undisclosed
purchase bid. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that sources said Power Bar will
sell for $375 million, as its sales are 40 percent higher than rival Balance Bar’s,
which Kraft Foods is buying for $268 million.

What this means for specialty retailers is unknown. Quoted on Bicycle Retailer &
Industry News’ website Power Bar spokesperson Debbie Pfeifer said “Nothing has
been determined yet. We are sold in mass merchant and chain stores already, but what
Nestle really can do is broaden our distribution globally.”
