| 35 year old Wayne Randle emerged from a group of 19 riders to take the Romford-Harlow Premier Calendar Road Race on the line. “It reminds me of the time I put Abdu in the barriers”, said Steve Joughin, Randles main quiche eating – coffee buffoon sponsor. Close on his heels was BCF-World Class Performance Programme track specialist Rob Hayles, with Steve Stonham and 36 year old Jonny Clay third and fourth respectively. With some of the country’s best young riders, who had dominated the previous weekend’s GP of Essex, absent racing abroad, the old order of British Road Racing re-asserted itself with a vengeance. Indeed, with John Tanner coming in fifth, there were three over thirties in the top five. Continuing the theme of age, a notable presence in the race was 51 year old Masters World Champion Ian Hallam. Hallam finished safely in the main bunch which came in just over one and a half minutes down on the winner. With three events of nineteen gone it’s still to early to predict a winner for the series. However, consistency often proves decisive in the Premier Calendar but and the Pro-Vision trio of Wayne Randle, Mark Lovatt and John Tanner look determined to make the other teams work hard for the points. The next event of the series is the Europa Two Day, next weekend (1st & 2nd April). The action starts at race HQ, Bishops Waltham, Hampshire at 1pm on Saturday.
