Those
underworked hacks over at Mountainbike magazine in the states (credit where it’s
due, eh?) have been flicking through the rules regarding road bikes and equipment.
The UCI (cyclings governing body) have instigated various loopy rules involving tubing
profiles, wheel sizes, but bizarrely also "saddle length". Saddles must
be between 24 and 27cm long. Which makes the old favourite Selle Italia Flite a whole
5mm too long for UCI competition, as can be seen from our precise engineering drawing.
Selle Italia are making small versions for the roadies who want to use them in the
Tour De France. For the rest of us? Well, don’t lose any sleep over it, eh?
