John Stamstad has
won his fifth consecutive Iditabike Extreme race, some five and a half
hours ahead of his nearest rival. Close friend of BIKEmagic, Pat Norwill
placed third, ten hours behind Stamstad.
Iditabike Extreme is 350miles self-supported trek across wilderness in
frozen Alaska. Temperatures drop regularly to -40C and the race motto
is enough to put off the uninitiated – “Cowards won’t show and the
weak will die!”

The UKs only entrant
(that we know of) multi-time Iditabike starter David Barker-Milne scratched
at Rohn. Better luck next time.
IDITABIKE IMPOSSIBLE
Now some of the athletes are racing on to Nome, in the North of Alaska.
Mike Curiak (CO), 8th place into McGrath, quietly rode out of McGrath
at 11:30am on Friday, and has taken the early lead with 4 big guns right
on his tail.
More details as it happens, or keep up to date on the Iditasport
site.
