Initital tests on animals in a suspected foot and mouth outbreak
in North Yorkshire have reportedly proved negative.
The tests were instigated after a vet visiting the farm at
High
Worsall, near Yarm yesterday noticed a cow with suspicious
symptoms. A five-mile exclusion zone around the farm has also been
introduced.
A Defra spokesman is quoted as saying: “Preliminary laboratory
tests from Pirbright have come back negative. But culture testing
will continue and we may know something more definite within 96
hours, it may be considerably earlier.”
And if you didn’t realise there was a suspected outbreak in North
Yorkshire until now, join the club. Here’s
the original DEFRA release detailing it anyway.
