European Singlespeed Championships

European Single Speed Championships in Germany this year. On the 25th of August 2002 there will be the one and only race worth going to for you single speeders out there. It will be a weekend of fun, riding, chatting, maybe a few drinks and last but not least racing. We managed to book up one of the best designated MTB trails in Germany – full of knee popping uphills, technical downhills and challenging single trails. The perfect place to have a weekend of fun with just one gear – fantastic! And this is how it is going to work.

You have to make your own way to the Todtnau MTB Fun Park 20km southeast of Freiburg in the very southwest of Germany. There are various ways to make your way down. If you are driving than just head towards Freiburg (Back Forrest) and either take a good map of ask a local where Todtnau is. Trust me the locals are rather nice down there and Todtnau is dead easy to find anyway. If you are flying into Germany then fly to Frankfurt and take the train down to Freiburg (will take you around 2 hours) and then the local trains to Titisee and further on to Bärental. Then it is just the question of rolling down into Todnau. If you are travelling light you might be able to ride from the station in Freiburg and if many people arrive at the same time we will try to pick you up at the station. So don’t forget to let us know about your travel arrangements (just send us an e-mail a few days in advance).

Pretty much everything will be located around the lift station at the bottom of the downhill course – again easy to find. The race will start and finish at the lift station and from there you can also hire (for a highly discounted price) a “big rig” or a nice “freerider” to have a proper go on the various downhill and freerider courses (you can get some protectors as well – we don’t want you to harm yourself just a day or two before the big day). Catering is also in place (but don’t forget to bring some food and a few drinks – you know the nights can get rather long!!) as well camping (stay is included in the entry fee), which is just a few minutes away. There is also a big mountain hut for our party and for signing on and that sort of thing.

You can download the course profile, the drawing of the course and the directions here and for the very keen ones there is also a link to the Todtnau MTB-Fun Park website. So only one more word at the end: we would like to thank all the people involved especially Felix from the park, Surly, DMR, PowerBar, CycloSport, Big Pack, Kona, Magura and RockShox for their support to make this happen. And if you all enjoy yourself me might have the World Championships in Germany next year!!

You can also download course layouts and course profiles.
