Bike Biz today reported that Madformountainbiking have announced that they are to close down the site this week. Back in August signs of failure started to appear when a number of editorial staff were laid off prompting bike industry rumblings that the end of the dotcom revolution was nigh for this particular start-up.
Launched in September 2000 with a fund in the region of £4million there was every indication that Madformountainbiking would be a serious contender and potential threat to magazine advertising revenues. Bike Biz today reported “Madformountainbiking [had] just 30 000 unique visitors a month at its peak, [and] never got anywhere near its advertising revenue targets.”
Madformountainbiking is survived by its editor, Malcolm Fawcett who has previously worked for bike supplier Ultrasport, magazines: MBR, Cycling Today and more.
