$199 Huffy MTB Outperforms GT Zaskar LE!!!
The staff of one of the USA’s leading consumer magazines came up with some
disturbing conlusions in a recent mountain bike comparison test…
HUFFY BEATS G.T.
That’s right, in a recent comparison test published in the
U.S. consumer magazine ‘WHICH?’, the editor found the $199 Huffy Montana
mountain bike to be superior to the $4,500 G.T. Zaskar!
The Huffy won
points for its “…solid steel rims which should prove more durable than the
narrow, flimsy looking alloy versions on the G.T….” (also mentioned were
the four extra spokes per wheel found on the Huffy), sensible seating and
soft foam grips, nice wide pedals (“…the GT was supplied with so -called
‘clipless SPD’ pedals which the tester found very uncomfortable to ride
wearing sandshoes…”), 12 gears opposed to 24 (“too many for any decent
clean living American…”), and a “sturdy looking one piece crank”.
The GT
lost out for its dangerous brakes that according to ‘WHICH?’ magazine,
“could throw you clean over the bars.” The GT gained a few points for its
light weight, allowing easier car rack mounting, but suffered for lack of a
decent bell and reflectors.
The testers were unable to ride far enough
off-road without falling to draw any conclusion other than announcing Huffy
the winner and asking, “Who’d want to ride a bicycle anyway?”
