Plans for the Global Bicycle Race have been making inexorable progress over the past few months. Riders from around the world have been taking on the challenge and beginning their own projects of fund-raising, route planning, and training. Check out the rider list on www.greatbikeride.com/globalbicyclerace/riders.htm
Sponsors including Brookes (saddles, luggage, and other leather based cycling equipment) have been approaching me and are finding a home within the event, which is just such a great feeling to have them come to you. We have had some TV interest, but there’s still a long way to go on the publicity side.
As principle organiser I’ve also have many offers of professional support and a team is coming together. I’m honoured to have Pat Adam’s (of Mountain Mayhem and Sleepless in the Saddle fame) as a good friend and he’s agreed to be a sounding board for me and a consultant to the race. The other news from an organisational point of view is that my current heavy workload will reduce and let me spend more time on race matters from late April onwards – time for more sponsor hunting and media work!
A few British based riders and I are going to the “evening in a pub” organised by fellow global cycle tourist Al Humphreys. Why not come and join us for a chat, a few photos, and a toast to adventure!
