Those of you who were outraged at 4-time Junior World Champion Nicole Cooke not even getting a mention on BBC Sports personality of the year can now feel satisfied.
Although largely ignored by the media who concentrate on broken footballers and second-rate Canadian import tennis players instead, the phenomenal talent of Welsh cyclist Nicole Cooke has not gone unnoticed at home. Nicole won the junior road race, mountain bike and time trial world championships last year, as well as the junior road race title the previous year, and has already won two major continental women’s races since turning pro this season.
Now icWales reports she’s been honoured with a whole plaque of her own on the village hall at her home in Wick, Glamorganshire.
Well it’s a start anyway, and let’s hope this is just the start of some wider recognition of one of Britain’s true world sports stars.
