Danish cycling beefcake Bo Hamburger has apparently been using more than just gherkins to enhance his performance. He is the first rider to be found positive by new blood and urine doping controls taken after the Fleche-Wallone classic in April. He has been fired immeadiately by his CSC World Online team. A second rider also failed the same set of tests, but his name or team have yet to be released by the UCI.
This test is more far reaching than the previous haematocrit level tests, as it is being cited as proof that the rider has doped rather than mere implication of doping from altered blood / oxygen levels. This means sanctions can be far more aggressive than the “enforced rest” previously imposed.
