A Hard Day’s Night, Deepcut – 15 October
Following the success of the Spring Series and the Southern Exposure night races, Gorrick MBC in association with Exposure Lights and USE has come up with a whole new concept in mountain bike racing – A Hard Day’s Night!
Riders will compete once in the day and once after dark for between 30 and 60 minutes around an exhilarating two mile, spectator-friendly course at Porridge Pot Hill, Deepcut on Saturday 15 October. After the singletrack, climbs and descents both day and night race positions
will be combined to find the overall winner with spot prizes from Exposure Lights and USE in a “be there to win them” killer prize draw.
USE and Exposure will also have a trade stand displaying the latest wares, alongside local shop Mountain Trax who are supplying the latest bikes for test riding, including the Santa Cruz Nomad, Orange 5, Giant Trance, Turner 5 spot, Scott Scale carbon and Genius carbon.
There’ll be plenty of room for spectators too, with the short course circling the arena making for a real spectacle. There are places still available for racing though and Gorrick will be taking entries on the day. -Luke Webber

Etnies Backyard Jam – 21-23 October
There is only a little over a week to go till the EBYJ hits Brighton. Expert Street is Sold Out, Pro is getting close, and spectator tickets are going quick. If you dont want to risk getting them on the door, then you had better get your order in fast, the closing dates for ticket orders from us direct are as follows…
Phone orders last date: Friday 14 October / …. Backyard Jam site ticket orders: Sunday 16 October.
You will still be able to order tickets online from Ticketmaster for delivery, and also the Brighton Centre ( 0870 900 9100 ) for collection at the event. Tickets will also be available on the door each day, but once they sell out that is it!
In its 12th year the Etnies Backyard Jam is coming back bigger and better. As the leading core event in the UK the riders list grows year on year and in 2005 it reads like the BMX hall of fame. Riders from teams like Etnies, Federal and Hoffman bikes include Jamie Bestwick (UK, twice X-Games Gold Medalist), Corey Martinez (US), Joe Rich (US), Morgan Wade (US, Street World Champion), Bas Keep (UK) and Sergio Layos (Spain, EBYJ winner 2003) to mention but a few. With such a line up and the relaxed atmosphere the EBYJ is famous for, the riders will push themselves, get technical and stretch boundaries to perform the sickest tricks in the race for the record $40,000 total prize money.
If that was not enough the Etnies Highest Air and the Snickers Best Trick contests on Saturday and Sunday respectively will definitely hype the crowd to frenzy and the excitement through the roof. Friday afternoon will also see a world record attempt as Snickers presents UK’s first Highest Bunny Hop contest.
This year more BMX enthusiasts can experience this world class event as the Brighton Centre offers tiered seating to 3,000 spectators. -Dan Bogard
